Before you plead guilty to a traffic violation (either by paying the fine or going to court and formally pleading guilty), you should know how many points you stand to receive for each violation. These points will stay on your record until they are removed, and could result in surcharges by the DMV (or a license suspension if you accumulate too many) and will likely cause your insurance rates to go up.
